Women+ for Western Health Giving Circle Grant, 2024

This initiative provides $50,000 to support a staff-led project aligned with Western Health’s Strategic Direction. Particular consideration will be given to projects that reduce barriers and improve health access and outcomes for all patients, especially where the greatest inequities exist. Shortlisted applicants will receive external coaching on how to prepare their project for presentation at Pitch Night, 12 September, 2024, where the winning project will be selected.

Eligibility and Conditions of Application

• This application process is open to all Western Health employees. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being inclusive, and to being a place where everyone is welcome. We particularly welcome applications from women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and those from diverse cultural backgrounds and abilities. We believe diversity is representative of the community we serve and fosters the innovation our community needs.
• Applicants must be available for the selection process, including presenting your project at Pitch Night on 12 September 2024.
• Shortlisted applicants will have access to coaching from an experienced external Business in Heels coach, who will train you in pitch methods between 19 July – 12 September 2024.
• Funding is non-recurrent and must be allocated by June 2025 for a 12-month project.
• Proposals must demonstrate an impact or benefit in line with Western Health's Strategic Direction as well as reduce barriers and improve health access and outcomes for all patients, especially where the greatest inequities exist.
• Proposals must have appropriate support from within your division and must meet Western Health’s procurement, capital, employment or other policies and procedures.
  

This grant has been made possible through the generous donations of the Women+ for Western Health Giving Circle members. The aim of the Giving Circle is to increase the impact of individual giving, by pooling funds raised and providing members with the opportunity to vote in the selection of the winning project.

• Finalists notified: 16 July 2024
• External coaching: 19 July – 12 September 2024

Last year's winners Alex Potter and Jan Kilicaslan, won the $50,000 grant for their project 'Creating a Safe & Affirming Western Health for our LGBTQIA+ Communities'. The duo have already seen a lot of success since their win, having employed the Gender and Sexuality Liaison Clinician, and the researcher for the project. They’ve commenced their research, received more funding from HCF, partnered with La Trobe university, and importantly, their project is delivering clinical support and affirming care to LGBTIQA+ consumers and staff, as well as delivering training and education in this space.
